A historical city

Thessaloniki’s history spans over 2300 years. The city was founded around 315 BC by King Cassander of Macedon. An important metropolis in the Roman period, Thessaloniki was the second largest and wealthiest city of the Byzantine Empire. It is home to numerous notable Byzantine monuments, including the Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments, as well as several Roman and Ottoman remains.
