Our public engagement philosophy

"Public engagement describes the myriad of ways in which the activity and benefits of higher education and research can be shared with the public. Engagement is by definition a two-way process, involving interaction and listening, with the goal of generating mutual benefit."

National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE), UK

In alignment with the Public Engagement definition provided by the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE), UK, at CITY College we place Public Engagement at the heart of our philosophy, our activities and our mission. Social responsibility is a core activity that involves interaction between CITY College and its many communities.

We believe that educational institutions not only can, but also have the duty and responsibility to give back to society, to use knowledge for a public purpose and make a difference in the world.  To make knowledge and expertise useful to society, and make a positive impact it has to be shared. The very act of sharing knowledge creates opportunities for the mutual benefit of society and academia. Our academic community is committed to be in service to society in many different and meaningful ways. Our staff, students and alumni contribute through their work to the development and the well-being of the people, the societies, and the economies of the countries in our region and beyond.

Sitting alongside our commitment to quality research, learning and outstanding teaching and learning, public engagement is included in our core strategic goals.
