A group of students represented the Computer Science Department of CITY College at the ACM womENcourage 2019 Conference joining ACM in celebrating Women in Computing. Themed “Diversity Drives Societal Change” the event took place in Rome, 16-18 September bringing together women in the computing profession and related technical fields to exchange knowledge and experience. The CITY College team was formed by a 3rd level student, Zoi Gaci, a postgraduate student, Rina Basholi, a PhD candidate, Adelina Basholi, and our alumna Alexandra Cristina Patrascu.
Accompanied by Dr George Eleftherakis, Associate Professor at our Computer Science Department and Director of the PhD Programme of SEERC, our student delegates participated in different ways in the event and gained invaluable experience! Congratulations also go to SEERC’s PhD student Adelina Basholli whose poster made it to the top 25 out of 140 posters submitted in the conference!
ACM-W Muses - the student club of CITY College dedicated to supporting and inspiring women in computing - also joined the event as volunteers, participants, and presenters! Well done Adelina, Rina, Zoi, and Alexandra!
Our Computer Science Department participates every year in the womENcourage Conference since the first one that took place in 2014. The Department aims at inspiring women in computing and combating the misconception that Computer Science is a field mostly addressing to men.
