ΝOW ONLINE IN REAL-TIME

The Coronavirus situation has created an extraordinary and unprecedented situation all over the world.  Our desire is to protect our students, staff and the community and at the same time to give the opportunity to our students to continue their education and to complete their academic obligations on time. At CITY College we are extremely fortunate to have in place the technology and expertise to be able to offer our top-quality education provision on-line to ensure that students are able to progress with their studies without delaying their progress. Thus, even under these awkward circumstances, students can continue their studies at the highest level with minimal disruption.

Online classes have already commenced.
This is a brief description how an online class takes place:

  • the lecturer is online and guides the class as they do in face-to-face lectures,
  • everything happens in real-time (synchronous), so you are able to see the slides or the whiteboard or a video etc. as you do in face-to-face classes,
  • you have the opportunity to ask questions as normal,
  • you can interact with your fellow students through instant messaging provided by the platform.

In other words, a virtual classroom accommodates all features of a normal classroom, only without physical presence.

All you will require for each virtual classroom is the following:

  • you will receive a web link; by clicking the link you will enter a virtual room,
  • you can physically be at any place as long as you have an internet connection,
  • you can connect through any device such as PC, laptop, mobile phone, tablet etc.
  • your device may have a camera although this is not a requirement,
  • you should have a microphone if you wish to interact with the lecturer and/or fellow students.

All classes will be normally recorded as a video (where appropriate) and uploaded as normal for future reference. Any additional material will also be available as normal in MOLE. Academic staff will be available at all time as normal for consultation, guidance, tutoring etc. through skype.

We strongly believe that given the circumstances, the agreed online model will give you an equivalent opportunity to complete your modules on time and also meet the quality standards that you have enjoyed so far during your studies.

Our main drive is what is more beneficial for our student at this particular moment as well as the health and well-being of our students and staff. As an Institution, we have the know-how and the technology to continue our operations online. Of course, we will keep you informed if anything changes. With our actions, we wish to ease your concerns about loss of semester or not meeting graduation or progression dates.

Suspension of classes from March 11 until March 25

(extension of suspension of classes until April 10, 2020)

We would like to inform you that the Greek Ministry of Education has announced yesterday (22/3/2020) that all educational institutions of all levels throughout Greece must continue to suspend face-to-face classes until the 10th of April 2020, as a necessary measure to control the spread of coronavirus.

Following a previous decision by the Ministry of Health, all classes were suspended from March 11 until March 25, 2020 due to coronavirus. The Minister of Health announced then (March 10, 2020), that all educational institutions of all levels throughout the country must remain closed for 14 days as a measure to protect vulnerable groups and control the spread of coronavirus.

Students in Thessaloniki should not attend classes and are asked to follow the guidelines for Public Health as provided by the Ministry of Health, the National Public Health Organization and other relevant bodies.

The College will be monitoring the developments and will keep you updated by email. So, please check your CITY College email on a regular basis.

CITY College academic staff and administration are available and you may contact them directly.

Instructions and additional information will be sent by email to all shortly.

The suspension of classes is a measure that the Greek Ministry of Health has taken for all educational institutions of all levels as a precaution for the protection and spreading of the Coronavirus.
Its purpose is the protection of individuals and the community. You should protect yourself by following the directives and advice of the relevant organizations (see more on our webpage on Coronavirus Advice) but you should also protect your community from getting and spreading Coronavirus by avoiding large social events and gatherings and following the recommended individual precautions.
Everyone has a role to play in protecting themselves, their loved ones and our communities.

Regarding the operation of the College's services and premises, please see below:

Access to buildings and services
- Both buildings in Thessaloniki (L. Sofou Building and Pr. Koromila Building) are not accessible to students.

- All academic and administrative staff are working and you may contact them directly.

- During the weekends of the 14-15/3 and 21-22/3 (Saturday and Sunday), both buildings will be closed.

Library (on-line services, library staff, lending services)
The Library as a physical space will not be accessible until April 10, 2020 due to the decision of the extension of the suspension of the Greek Ministry due to the Coronovirus epidemic.

This is dictated by the above decision by the Ministry of Health due to the nature of the Library as a gathering space for students.
However, all online & interlibrary loan services are available and the Library staff will be available to help you and answer student queries (phone or email).
If you wish to borrow a book or other material, please contact the Library staff to arrange it.

Addition: For further information on ONLINE Library Services during the Coronavirus outbreak, please visit the Library webpages.

Labs
Following the same decision by the Ministry of Health, all labs will remain closed until April 10, 2020.

Student clubs, CSU activities, events, and social gatherings
All extracurricular activities organized by the College and the CSU are suspended until April 10, 2020.

Activities related to your studies
Taking into consideration the new situation, soon there will be new announcements from academic Departments giving you guidelines and information about your courses.
