1st year of project for the Special School at Pefka successfully concluded by our Psychology students

Students from the Psychology Department of CITY College successfully completed  a very special project this year for the Special School at Pefka. The conclusion meeting took place at our main campus in Thessaloniki with school representatives, Mr Evangelos Sepetis, Director of Postgraduate Programmes in Counselling Psychology and Mr Vassilis Tsoulis, Director of the Career, Employability and Enterprise centre reflecting on this very special project and its outcomes.

1st year of project for the Special School at Filiro successfully concluded by CITY College Psychology students

The project involved supporting children with special needs social life and activities. Our students were meeting with the school’s young students in their free time and organised different outings to help them socialise, engage in social activities and develop social skills necessary for their social integration, quality of personal relationships and level of happiness. During spring semester the situation created by coronavirus pandemic meetings and outings became unfeasible, so our students shifted to online communication with the students with special needs thus helped them go through this particularly difficult time with their support.

During the conclusion meeting, participants evaluated the evolvement of the project, examined the benefits of all students involved as well as discussed the feedback given from students and Psychology students, as well as feedback from the academic staff of the Psychology Department that supervised and guided our students.

The project proved an invaluable opportunity for our students to get hands on experience from their involvement with children with special needs.

This specific activity is another way in which the Psychology Department and CITY College overall give back to the community and put themselves at the service of those in need.

At the closing of the meeting both parties expressed their intention to continue the collaboration in the next academic year with new initiatives and activities.
