CITY College Europe Campus hosts Summer School for Ukrainian university staff and students

CITY College, University of York Europe Campus had the pleasure of hosting a Summer School programme for a group of Ukrainian staff and students from the Karazin Kharkiv National University (KKNU) from 21st to 28th August 2022.

The Summer School took place as part of a twinning initiative between British and Ukrainian universities intended to offer support to academics, students and university leaders during the ongoing conflict. Earlier in the year the University of York signed a partnership agreement with Karazin Kharkiv National University (KKNU) of Ukraine.

CITY College Europe Campus hosts Summer School for Ukrainian students

KKNU staff and students had the opportunity to enjoy a week in Thessaloniki gaining important academic and transferable skills. Participants learned about teaching technologies, academic integrity and ethics, digital teaching skills and tools and English language competencies. In addition to classes, the programme included walks in the city of Thessaloniki, visits to churches, monuments and the Archaeological Museum, dinners and swimming at local beaches.

Mr. Vaughan McKee, Global Partnership Officer from the University of York also visited CITY College Europe Campus to welcome the KKNU visitors on behalf of the University of York.

Special thanks:
We would like to warmly thank the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki for offering free entrance to our group, the "Karavakia Thessaloniki Waterbus" company for a significant ticket discount to and from N. Epivates beach, Ms Anatoli (Aliona) Karypidou (tour guide) for the complimentary tours she gave us of St. Dimitrios and Hagia Sophia churches, of the city centre and of the archaeological museum. Also, Quietvox Thessaloniki for giving us free of charge the wireless audio assistance equipment for the museum tour and the Ukrainian-Greek friendship association for helping coordinate and for attending some actions for the group during their stay in Thessaloniki.
