Information for visitors

The primary aim of the Information & Learning Commons is to support the teaching, learning and research needs the International Faculty CITY College students and staff. Therefore, services to the wider academic and local community are provided, where this can be achieved, without interfering with the library’s main objective.

 

Access to Services & Facilities

Individuals who wish to use the library services and facilities are welcome to apply for membership. External users may register and become members. Membership forms are available at the Library Services Desk. Personal ID or Passport is required for registration. 
Membership entitles external users to the following:

  • Access to print material from the standard loan collections
  • Borrowing entitlements
  • Use of the computing and reproduction services

All external users are required to comply with the Library's rules and regulations, print copies of which are handed out upon registration.

 

Borrowing Entitlements

Registration to the library entitles external members to the following:

Loan of two books

  • The normal loan period is two weeks, unless recalled by another user
  • Renewal by telephone or e-mail (one week maximum) 

Returning loans

Borrowed items should be returned during the library’s opening hours.

Overdue items 

Strict fines apply to those who return to the Library overdue items. Failure to pay a fine will result in the withdrawal of all borrowing entitlements, including access to the library computing facilities.

Renewing loans

If an external member cannot visit the Library to renew in person, then one may use the telephone or e-mail renewal service. E-mail renewal requests may be sent to: library@citycollege.sheffield.eu. Renewals are allowed, provided no one else has applied for reservation.

 

Computing & Reproduction Resources

Access to the ILC computing services is possible for external users only upon permission of the Library Services staff.

External members may use the ILC computer services for:

  • Catalogue and Internet searching
  • Word processing and other software applications
  • Scanning of photographs, images, texts 

Scanning and Printing

A scanner, color and black & white printers are available for use in the Silent PC Room and in the PCs Area. Please note that printing is charged 0.03 cents per page.


 

Electronic Resources

The use of electronic resources is not available to external members. However, OpenABEKT Catalogue is open to the general public. External members can use the catalogue to: 

  • Check what books the library holds
  • Check what journals the library holds
  • Search for subject resources via our Subject Pages

 

Photocopying

A self-service photocopy machine is housed in a separate room for the reproduction of extracts of books, theses or periodicals. There is a printing charge of 0.03 cents per page.

 

Abuse of ILC Regulations

The ILC staff has the authority to determine whether a user’s behavior is improper, or if this behavior inconveniences other library users, or causes damage in the ILC. Abuse of ILC regulations may result in loss of all membership privileges.
